Shaw's Nightmare is a 3D game by Mickey Productions. You are Shaw. You were
reading a book then you fell asleep. Suddenly, your headphones start
picking up strange sounds: static, men yelling orders, screams, bones
cracking and finally silence. Then a hole grew and you are sucked into it.

Things aren't looking too good. You have never been alone in your life.
Plus you don't have your father's guns. If only you could get a hold of a
rapid catapult or a camera gun, you could protect yourself.

Suddenly a scout boy comes and you stabbed him with a nearby knife. Then
angry growls arose. They know you're here. There's no turning back.

1.1 A Better-Defined World

In games like Ken's Labyrinth there was no sky and floors and ceilings were
only coloured. In Shaw's Nightmare anything can be textured, even floors
and ceilings! Plus they can get slanted! The walls get darker when you
get further from them.

1.2 Non-Straight Walls

In games like Ken's Labyrinth walls were always 90-degrees and shaped like
a square. In Shaw's Nightmare you could make walls at any length and at any
angle, allowing for circular rooms, rotating rooms and swinging doors!

1.3 Different palettes

Shaw's Nightmare has about 5 alternative palettes that can make a texture
look different with a colour!

1.4 Different video modes

Shaw's Nightmare supports VESA modes, which are high quality, and they are
limited to 35 FPS.

1.5 Better Monsters and AI

Ken's Labyrinth's monsters basically just move and only attack occasionally.
In Shaw's Nightmare the AI is much more complex. Instead of enemies
disappearing into thin air, they have death sequences and they often have
different methods of attacking the player.

There is a huge amount of enemies in Shaw's Nightmare. Here is a list:

Former Scout Boy: Just a few years ago, you thought these boys were lame.
Now they are crooked and dangerous.

Former Scout Leader: A fat boy with a white t-shirt and shorts. These
walking doberwands can provide you with extra holes if you're not careful!

Spider Cat: A mutant cat which shoots acid. It's time to find a better
weapon than that dagger and mini-catapult if you are going to defeat them.

Dog: These dogs go straight to you and bite you. Their bites can damage you
severely especially without armor.

Shadow Dog: Invisible dogs that are much harder to see.

+ Huge Cat: A gigantic cat that shoots crimson.

+ Flying Fish: Dangerous. Flies. With sharp hooks.

+ Flying Baby: The babies can fire at you constantly at you if they ever start
firing at you so take cover before they see you.

# Rapid-Firing Girl: The first enemy you'll encounter in Shaw's Nightmare
II. They are quite deadly due to their rapid-firing cannon.

# Evil Knight: They are like Kali faced in level eight but are easier to
kill and are in larger numbers.

# Plopper: They shoot out fish at an alarming rate. You better get rid of
them or the flying fish will impale you seriously.

# Ogre: These guys are just plain cruel. Their punches can really hurt and
while they are at it they can shoot small hen grenades.

# Zombie gripper: This zombie is not only terrifying, he can cast a spell
which make you yelp in pain.

+ Not found in episode 1.
# Found only in Shaw's Nightmare II.

first upgrade of Shaw's Nightmare. It was released on December 31 2013.
This version contains the full game and some bug fixes. v1.2 is the third
release of Shaw's Nightmare and added some new features.

This section should help you if you cannot get the game to run as it
should.

Windows Vista and above have problems running Shaw's Nightmare since
it is a graphical DOS application.

One recommendation is to install DOSBox and run the game from there.

Another recommendation is that you install the Windows XP drivers for your
video card. See the manufacturer for details.

Your video card may be conflicting with Windows XP drivers. You need NOLFB
to disable linear frame-buffer. See [7.2] for more information on how
to get it.

(1) Shaw's Nightmare requires 8MB to function properly. Check if you have
    at least this amount.
(2) If you are using DOS, boot clean by using a floppy.
(3) Try single-stepping by pressing F8. Remember to install your mouse
driver and sound drivers if any, though.
(4) Remove some TSRs like JEMMex, EMM386, QEMM.

This helps fix problems with sound cards in Shaw's Nightmare.

Some sound cards do not emulate\have the adlib chip anymore. The only
recommendation is to find an old Adlib sound card or find a emulator. See
above for recommendations.

You do not have the geniune peripheral. Get a MT-32 or switch to General
MIDI.

(1) Play on a harder difficulty level
(2) Save your game only at the beginning of each level.
(3) Only use mini-catapult and dagger for the entire game.
(4) Use -respawn to make the other monsters respawn on
other difficulty levels.
(5) Never use cheats.

 (1) Play on a easier difficulty level
 (2) Save often.
 (3) Use cheat codes or cheating utilities.
 (4) Use powerful weapons all the time.
